People, here's a major announcement pertaining to the upcoming 11/25 release of Rivers Cuomo's "Alone II"... anyone near SoCal on 11/25 needs to check this out right now!

Here's the word from Fingerprints Records , Long Beach, CA:

Fingerprints is ecstatic to announce an album release event straight from the imagination of Rivers Cuomo. It's a bit different for us, so read all the way through, including the details at the bottom about how you can join us for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Rivers talked about the event in a recent interview with Pitchfork... here's how he explained what will be happening on our humble little stage on Tuesday, November 25th:

"I am doing a really cool event to promote Alone II on the day of release. It's basically another Hootenanny, but it's a little different. Anyone can be a part of it, you don't have to bring an instrument. But if you do bring an instrument, you will be part of the team that gets to pick the songs we play. It can be any song, in some cases, it might just be one person who says, like, "Oh! Let's play this obscure B-side!", and he may be the only person in the room who knows it, besides me, and then it will just be me and that person giving a concert to the rest of the room. And then the next song, there might be 20 people who know it. So that will be a very dynamic event and very fun for me. And I won't have to bring a guitar [laughs]." - Rivers Cuomo

We will be opening the guest list at 11:00am on Thursday, November 6th. The list will be open to people that pre-order Rivers' new album, Alone II: The Home Recordings , with a limit of two spots per person. We are looking for both musicians and non-musicians and will be managing the list to make sure we have enough of both, please don't buffalo us by saying you'll play if you won't. Space will be more limited than usual, as we're leaving a bit of extra room to move around with instruments.

** Please note that we will be accepting RSVP pre- orders for this performance via phone (562.433.4996) and in-person, but purchasing through the website will not get you in to see the performance.

So, on November 25, Rivers is releasing an album called "Alone II", which is the second album collection of his home demos. Like the first it will have extensive liner notes and interesting old pictures. See the album's cover below, and check out this new interview on Pitchfork about it . Also, coming soon: a video from Alone II.

...Here's an article for Columbia, MO's MOVE magazine , written by weezer fan Jose V., who got to be in the Houston Hootenanny, as well as being one of the few who came up on stage to play "Undone" with the band back in '05. Sometimes lightining does strike twice.

...Somehow I forgot to mention the awesome walk off music after the final show in Atlanta was over: Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". A Classic Heart Song to put the Troublemaker Tour to bed!

10/25/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 26: Atlanta - Gwinett Arena | News

Once again, it's on in the ATL! (Well, Duluth, technically). From Buckhead to 5 points, from midtown to downtown, and all points in between, Atlanta is huge and busy 24-7. How else could the capitol of the Dirrrty South be? This is a great town to finish a tour in, as the vibe is always fantastic and the people always friendly and stoked, as they have been for weezer since the early days of the Masquerade and 99x...
The Troublemaker Tour came to a triumphant end tonight, although it was with a bit of a sad note that everyone said goodbye, as the Troublemaker Train was humming along so smoothly no one felt ready to step off just yet! Not even Pat, who fell under the weather the night before the show but managed to put out his full butt kicking effort anyway for the tour finale.
The biggest of ups to our tourmates Tokyo Police Club and Angels And Airwaves, who both brought their A games this tour in a fully professional and fun manner. It was truly a pleasure to be out on the road with these bands. And a major major round of applause to our crew, who really kicked so much ass its unreal. Theres too many names to list here, but everyone in all departments was giving 200% and it was showing. You know who you are guys and gals - thank you all so much. Best Crew Ever hands down!
Tokyo Police Club used their last Troublemaker show to bust out with a sweet cover of "Friends Of P". Tom Delonge pulled his pants down during his guest app on "Undone" just as Rivers was describing to the audience how uncomfortable past "end of tour pranks" had made him. (Heh!) And local Weez cover (and more) band El Scorcho was in the Hootenanny tonight, as was T.P.C. for that matter, plus Nishant/"ats5" from the 'Lets Write a Sawng' project. Meanwhile someone dressed Tokyo's van up as a ham and cheese sandwich while they were playing their show. Thats how things roll in Atlanta!

On Halloween 10/31, Boston band Beautiful Lies will be covering The Blue Album in its entirety at the Berklee College of Music Cafe 939 (located at 939 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02215). The show is FREE and ALL AGES.

10/23/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 25: Houston - Reliant Arena | News

Finally back to the weatherbeaten but still mighty city of Houston, for the purposes of Rock, and Roll. Can't forget Roll. Today was the third of the three Texas shows, and the penultimate show of the Troublemaker Tour - how did we get here so fast? Just one more show, Saturday night in Atlanta. Houston took a beating from Hurricane Ike not very long ago at all, and still bears the scars. Scott asked the crowd if they were doing alright after Ike, and the response was a roar of rock! It takes a lot to get the Houstonians down, and they rocked as hard as any crowd on this tour, freaking out and crowdsurfing too. And TPC, AAA + the Weez were here to help lift the spirits high.
The Reliant Arena is sort of a kid Brother to the nearby Reliant Stadium, home of NFL's Houston Texans. What usually goes on in the smaller arena was harder to determine. It was sort of a giant convention hall. A good enough place as any to rock out in, I suppose.

10/21/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 24: Dallas - Nokia Theatre | News

Second of the Texas Trifecta tonight, in Dallas! Or rather Grand Prairie, a suburb between Dallas and Fort Worth. Regardless, its Texas and thats what counts. The Nokia Theater is a jumbo (or shall we say Texas?) sized modern indoor theater, not as big as a hockey arena, but definitely still really big, and specifically designed for hosting entertainment. Which is what the people got today in a healthy dose. Today Pat's high school buddy Greg C. got to come up and play the drums on "Undone". As Pat told it, Greg was how Pat first got into playing the drums, and is therefore partly responsible for how Weezer turned out! So it was pretty cool for Pat and Greg to be able to share the stage many years later.

Shout out to Bryce Avary of The Rocket Summer who was in the house, a long time weezer fan well before his own great success kicked in! Bryce passed me his 1st ep back at Cain's in Tulsa OK in 2001, and has come a looong way since then!

The show time for the Weezer concert taking place at NOKIA Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX on Tuesday, October 21st has moved from 8PM to 7:30PM. ...Okay, so these 2 cool kids from Portland have this cool video show about music called "The Mike And Joey Jesus Show ", and they won a 94.7 contest to do a mini-documentary on Weezer. I guided them around backstage at the PDX show and they did some interviews with band members and such, and they turned it into a cool 20 min video show, that you can watch here . Enjoy!

The Arizona State Fair might not seem like a likely place for a weezer concert, but aside form the numerous turkey legs and chicken fingers, the Tilt-A-Whirls and the unusually early show start time, today fit right in with the rest of the Troublemaker Tour. And despite the seated floor style which can often dampens the rocking out spirit, these Phonecians could not be kept down! It got mighty loud in that arena!

Tonight was the second night Josh from Tokyo Police Club was brought out to help play some guitar on Troublemaker, in addition to the other fun guest appearances that have been marking these shows. Good times!

Shout outs to the 2 people who were there from Pat's hometown, and the indomitable S to the R to the F of the Schoolhouse Of Rock!

10/17/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 21: San Diego - Cox Arena | News

Back at the good ol' Cox Arena, site of many a weezer show over the years. The first time Weezer played the Cox was on a New Years Eve, when 2000 became 2001. That show was headlined by Blink 182, whose Tom DeLonge heads Angels and Airwaves today. Pretty cool how we're back under the same roof again...and as Rivers recently said "and thats the end of a lame story".

Today weezer had the legendary skate photographer O helping out by lending his expertise and punk spirit to the proceedings. We are looking forward to seeing O's pix from the pit. In the meantime, the usual selection of my own shots are up (below). Also in the pit was OG Rivers buddy, Amherst house resident, etc Adam O. who also shot up a storm. See his photo reults from the night here .

Today's raucous Hootenanny included local sometimes weez tribute band Geezer, faux Octagenarians who brought a nurse in case they went into cardiac arrest from the excitement, as well as some baked cookies for the band. And big ups to trifecta Cali show goer and uberfan Luis.

RIVERS NEEDS YOUR STICKERS! Rivers needs to decorate his drum kit (the one on the side of the stage, not Pat's in the middle), and he wants stickers to do it. Years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars; now - er, wait - I mean, years ago, Rivers asked for stickers for his guitar, and hundreds of you tossed envelopes loaded with crazy stickers onstage for days - his Stratocasters were quickly plastered! Can we count on you guys to come thru again? However you can get them to us works - if you see me, pass em over - if youre close to the stage, toss em up! Just write "Stickers for Rivers" on the envelope! Thanks people!

And meanwhile: recently, what must be the greatest Weezer fan site since the original RWA has launched - Weezerpedia ! Weezerpedia is a fan run, fan edited conglomeration of Weezer info culled from all over the web. You might have seen some of this info before, on weezer.com and elsewhere, but never all in one wiki-style editable searchable database like it is on Weezerpedia!

10/14/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 20: Inglewood (L.A.) - The Forum | News

Whats up Inglewooooooood! Tonight was the big bad L.A. show at the Forum. Its not the Great Western Forum anymore, but it is pretty great and certainly West of most other forums I can think of. A few months back the parking lot outside was the site of the filming of the Troublemaker video, and tonight the tour of the same name came back to SoCal to do some damage. And much damage was dealt, with mighty broadswords and arrows.
Brian's band The Relationship again opened the show, their second of 3 Cali show opening sets. Remember folks, they go on at 7 PM sharp so get there on time for a full rock experience!

Sticker people - yes we got all 3 sticker packets you tossed to the stage - the fedex one, the little red/yellow envelope and the other one too. Thanks people! Just what are we talking about you ask? Scroll down.
Shoutouts to EDDIE VAN HALEN who came to rock out to the weez - and was nearly ejected from weezer's dressing room by accident! Sorry about that Eddie, we do love you! 10/13/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 19: San Jose - Event Center At SJSU | News

Good ol' San Jose. Good ol' San Jose State University. Good ol' San Jose State University Arena. The last time we (almost) played this place was a unique time in United States history - 9/11. No one had any idea what was going on, and in the severe uncertainty, the show was cancelled. Once it was apparent that civilization would go on, the show was made up later in the tour. This time around, there was no such drama. But plenty of the good righteous Rock n' Roll Drama.
Brian's band The Relationship opened the show with style and panache, their first of 3 special opening performances while the Troublemaker Tour swings thru L.A. (They play at 7 PM sharp people, so dont be dilly dallying!)
Special shout outs to Neil Young (the Weezer engineer of '00), and the Lakeshore Crew: Eric, Pauline, and Ron! Also Luis the Mosh Pit King.

Back to the mercifully (for the moment) sunny city of Seattle, specifically the Key Arena which was until recently the home of the Seattle Supersonics, who it seems have moved to Oklahoma. Therefore, the Key Arena has been recently sorely lacking in good wholesome entertainment. So its particularly fortunate that Weezer came along today to provide Rock and Roll, for the kids to dance all the latest dances to. Yes, there they were, doing the Vegan Strut, the Backslash, the iPhone Shuffle, and the Forced Error Watusi. Oh, how they danced. Oh my.

Special thanks to Johnny D. for taking today's photo #3! Folks, if youre in trouble and need expert legal council in the Seattle area, or you need a telephoto picture taken, Johnny D. is your man. Can this be said about anyone else.

Tonight's show was what is known in touring talk as a hit and run - sandwiched between the Portland and Seattle shows, we came into Vancouver in the early morning, rested a bit, did the show, and packed up to go on to Seattle. It's too bad because Vancouver is such a neat city, and for the most part all the band and crew see are the hallways of the GM Place Arena, home of the Vancouver Canucks. Those halls were painted with such slogans as "We Are All Canucks". And maybe they are right. Anyway, regardless of how little we were able to hang in the 'Couve, The crowd was robust, loud and showed the band a lot of love. Viva Vancouver!

Tonight was the Portland show, at the Memorial Coliseum. Pat Wilson lived in Portland (well, Tigard actually) for 6 years before moving back to L.A. some years ago, and back in the day the Allan sisters ran the original Weezer fanclub out of their house here for a long time. Not to mention original 60 Wrong Sausages member and essential early weez compatriot Patrick Finn calls the PDX his home. So Portland's got real weezer roots, and its always a pleasure to roll thru this town. Tonight was no exception! The rock was solid, barring a couple small tech moments, the Hootenanny was lots of fun for all, and Wilson changed up the cover groove tonight, busting out some Floyd, and it sounded pretty damn sweet.

10/07/08 Troublemaker Tour Show 15: Salt Lake City - E Center | News

Back to Salt Lake City, home of Brian's super artistic sister Leia, and hometown of the dearly missed Allan sisters, who of course were the OG weezer fanclubbers. Tonight's show at the E Center was one of the smaller gigs on the tour so far, but what it may have lacked in size, it more than made up for it in volume and enthusiasm! That place got LOUD and the spirit of the fans was thru the roof! Meanwhile Rivers was a step ahead on the road to congestion recovery and had an easier time holding down the fort on his vocals tonight. At this rate he should be right back in the saddle in a few days.
While the hootenannies have provided this tour with many "weezer firsts", such as "first Theremin ever played with weezer" etc, tonight a very special first happened right down in the pit - the first ever wheelchair crowdsurfing at a Weezer show! (see 1st picture for proof!) It was an amazing sight and so cool to see a dude who normally has to fight for a good sight line be lifted up to the best spot in the arena - and held there for quite some time!
Tonight Tokyo Police Club were unable to play due to a prior commitment (some sort of TV show taping), so the local band Tolchock Trio took their place and did a great job. I was hearing some almost Replacements-ish stuff. Or Jawbox, or something cool like that. Good Midwest feeling indie/punk styles with neat sounds. Thanks for coming on board for a night guys.

After a day for much travel from the heart of the midwest to the Rocky Mountain High land, we got down to the business of troublemaking again in Denver - or rather, way out in the apparently brand new suburb of Broomfield. Tonights show was a bit of a challenge due to a heavy bout of congestion that Rivers had to plow thru to sing. Somehow he did it, though I have no idea how - I chalk it up to pure determination to rock under any circumstances! As has been the case so far, we had another spirited crop of Hootenany folk up on stage tonight, and the temporarily expanded weezer got the whole arena to sing along at the top of their lungs.
